Ship Crewmembers

Ship Crewmembers are essential NPCs that provide powerful ship-wide bonuses, assist in combat, and gain experience alongside the captain. This page details their recruitment, professions, stats, and the loyalty system. Return to the main Ships page.

Acquiring Crewmembers

Crewmember Contracts can be obtained in several ways:

  • Hiring: Found in Taverns, Inns, Docks. Hired using Doubloons (see cost table below).
  • Begging: Some crewmembers can be recruited using the Begging skill.
    • 120 Begging gives a 2% chance to recruit Heroic crew in towns.
    • 120 Begging gives a 1% chance to recruit Legendary crew in towns.
  • Loot: Found as loot during seafaring activities. These contracts start at Loyalty Level 0. Looted contracts are acquired as Pending Salvage.

Adding and Removing Crew

  • Crewmembers exist as Contracts (items) when not assigned to a ship.
  • Add/Remove contracts to/from your ship via the Crew Gump Tab while the ship is a Deed or Docked with a Dockmaster.
  • The Ship Deed must be in your backpack to remove crewmembers.

The Doubloon cost to hire a crewmember depends on their base Rank.

Crewmember Stats and Pips

  • Crewmembers have base stats determined by their Rank (Novice to Legendary).
  • These stats are represented by "pips" distributed randomly among the possible bonuses for their Profession when the contract is generated/looted.
  • Stats increase as the crewmember gains Loyalty Levels.

Breach / Bravery

  • The former "Breach" stat is now Bravery.
  • Instead of Armor Ignore, Bravery provides a Damage Bonus for crewmembers against:
    • Creatures on the same ship (e.g., repelling boarders).
    • Bosses / Boss Minions.

Ship Crewmember Loyalty

Crewmember Info showing Loyalty Level and XP bar.
  • Loyalty ranges from Level 0 to 10. Crewmembers start at Level 0.
  • Loyalty Level is depicted by Rum Bottles in the info gump (0 bottles = Level 0).

Earning Loyalty Experience (XP)

  • Crewmembers gain XP when the captain's ship earns Doubloons from:
    • Killing enemy NPC Crewmembers.
    • Sinking enemy NPC ships.
  • XP is also gained from completing:
  • XP gain rate was increased by 50% (Patch 11/8/21).
  • Progress is shown by a yellow/white bar and specific values in the Crewmember Info gump.

Upgrading Loyalty Level

Upgrading Loyalty requires Pirate Booty.
  • When XP bar is full, the Loyalty Level can be upgraded via the Crewmember Info page.
  • Upgrading requires spending Pirate Booty (items found during seafaring).
  • The Pirate Booty cost increases with each level.
  • Upgrades cannot be performed while at sea (must be on land/docked).

Loyalty Upgrade Stat Increases

Each Loyalty Level upgrade provides:

Ship Bonus (from Profession) +5% (scalar multiplier on base bonus)
Hit Points +25 to +50 (random)
Dexterity +0 to +2 (random)
Damage Bonus (Personal) +0 to +2 (random)
Wrestling Skill +0 to +2 (random)
Armor Rating +0 to +2 (random)
Magic Resist Skill +0 to +3 (random)
  • At Max Loyalty Level 10, the crewmember's base Ship Bonuses gain an additional +50% multiplier.

Crewmembers in Combat

  • Begging Skill's "Motivation" mechanic increases Crewmember Damage by (25% * (Begging Skill / 100)) for 5 minutes (no longer affects Wrestling).
  • NPC Crewmembers deal +50% increased damage in ship battles (compared to players/pets).
  • Crew cannot be directly controlled in combat; they attack the nearest enemy autonomously.
