Cartography

The Cartography skill allows players to create various types of maps, decipher research and treasure maps, and enhance exploration abilities. Using a Map Maker’s Pen and a Blank Map, players can craft Local, City, Regional, and World Maps. The skill is also essential for decoding Treasure and Resource Maps using a Spyglass, improving their accuracy based on the player's skill level and tool bonuses.

Mechanics

Deciphering Maps

• Using a Spyglass on a Treasure or Resource Map opens the decoding interface.
• This allows players to decode and enhance a map's accuracy, up to a limit based on the player's skill and tool bonus.

Explorer Pack

• Players can craft Explorer Packs using Cartography under the Utility Items category.
• Explorer Packs do not provide skill gain.

Exploration Action

• Players can double-click an Explorer Pack in their backpack to begin an Exploration Action.
• Remaining stationary for 5 seconds activates an Exploration Effect.
• The Exploration Effect lasts 60 minutes and persists through death.
• Players will see a "You now feel familiar with the area" message upon successful activation.

While on Land

Players with an Exploration Effect active receive the following bonuses when on land:

Damage Bonus (Melee, Spell, Poison, and Traps) against creatures from Treasure Map Chests and Trade Caravans:

(25% * (Cartography Skill / 100))

Damage Resistance Bonus against creatures from Treasure Map Chests and Trade Caravans:

(10% * (Cartography Skill / 100))

While on Ships

Players with an Exploration Effect active while on a ship receive the following bonuses:

Damage Bonus (Melee, Spell, and Poison) against creatures and ship crewmembers:

(25% * (Cartography Skill / 100))

Damage Resistance Bonus against creatures and ship crewmembers:

(10% * (Cartography Skill / 100))

Spyglass Search Range Bonus:

(25% * (Cartography Skill / 100))

• Note: Players do not need to stay near their Exploration Action location to maintain bonuses from Exploration Effects. They are free to move.

PvP Bonuses

Supplemental PvP Melee Damage Bonus

(10% * (Cartography Skill / 100))

Supplemental PvP Spell Damage Bonus:

Atlases and Hiking

• Players can use either their Camping Skill or Cartography Skill when using an Atlas to Hike to locations.
• Players can Unlock Hiking Locations in their Atlas by performing an Exploration Action at the location.
• Players can Hike to destinations in their Atlas Book if they are within 8 tiles of their last Exploration Action location that occurred within the last 15 minutes.
